ISLAMABAD: Eid wishers saving their time, sending ‘Eid wishes’ through SMS and internet as people sending various interesting messages to their love once all over the country.
A report aired by a private news channel said, SMS has become a new mode of greeting on festivals, as the mobile companies in the country have several SMS packages to facilitate their customers.
Since all these modes of communication are time-saving as well as money-saving, people do not feel inclined to visit markets to choose ‘Eid cards’ and then send them through post offices.
Talking about the declining trend of the cards, a social scientist said,”Our lifestyle has changed. We are more mindful of our money now. It’s more convenient to download e-cards from the internet, which are free and one card can be sent to many friends with a single click”.
A social media consultant Farrukh Naeem explained that people used to send a one-size-fits-all message to their contacts via SMS, said , adding that with social media, people not only choose the tone of the message, they choose so depending on whether they are addressing family, friends or colleagues all this for free.
“Cost is an important factor. Social media has been a beacon of relief for many reasons including preventing spam using impersonal Eid greetings. With over 80 percent of all internet users now connected on some form of social network or another, people have different ways to connect,” he said.
Courtesy to Internet coupled with improved and expanded 3G and4G servicesin country ,people prefer to greet their near and dear ones through different Applications, Mobile comanies urged.
The mobile phone companies which generate revenues on Eids mainly through SMS, local and international voice calls, also see an increased usage of social media and messengers rather than normal way of expressing best wishes.
While talking on use of SMS for sending Eid wishes parents viewed that there were complaints of receiving Eid wishes from unknown numbers that a source of irritation for their children.
An employee in printing press opined that the trend has now changed and the growth of technology has greatly affected my business. People now use mobile phones and social media to send Eid greetings to family and friends.
