LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the Fort Munro was a tourist spot of South Punjab and by developing this area tourism, economic and social activities could be promoted.
Fort Munro Development Authority Chairman MNA Awais Leghari gave a briefing on proposals regarding Fort Munro Welfare City while Chief Executive Rasheed Memorial Welfare Organisation Air Commodore (R) Shabbir Khan informed about setting up of Rasheedabad City and social activities of the organisation.
Presiding over a meeting of Fort Munro Development Authority here on Saturday, the chief minister said the Punjab government would consider setting up of Fort Munro Welfare City on the pattern of Rasheedabad City and would prepare a future strategy after reviewing proposals in this regard.
Issuing instructions for setting up a committee for considering the proposal to establish Fort Munro Welfare City under public-private partnership, and the committee should present its final recommendations within two weeks, the chief minister said. He said the Punjab government was implementing a balanced policy of development.
He said besides urban areas, special attention was being paid to development of backward areas as well and people were benefitting from the mega projects completed at a cost of billions of rupees in south Punjab. He said that the state-of-the-art Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital, Muzaffargarh, was providing modern treatment facilities to the masses. He said record funds had been allocated in the current budget for the development of south Punjab.
Appreciating social activities of Rasheed Memorial Welfare Organisation, the he said the services of the organisation and its Chief Executive Air Commodore(R) Shabbir Khan was commendable. He said the service to ailing humanity was a form of worship. He said the Punjab government had also started development programme of billion of rupees for facilitating the poor.
Provincial Ministers Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Tanvir Aslam Malik, Air Marshal (R) Qazi Javed Ahmad, Air Marshal Farooq Habib, Planning & Development chairman, secretaries of concerned departments, senior authorities and officers of Fort Munro Development Authority attended the meeting whereas Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan and DCO Dera Ghazi Khan participated in the meeting through video-link.
