FAISALABAD: Police have arrested 2,063 criminals from different parts of the district during the month of May.
A police spokesman Aamir Waheed said on Sunday that the criminals arrested include 878 proclaimed offenders, 493 target offenders, 393 drug traffickers, 247 illicit weapon holders and 52 court absconders.
The police had also recovered 11 Kalashnikovs, 184 pistols, 43 guns, 19 rifles, 4 carbines, 3 revolvers, a number of bullets and cartridges, 126.84 kilograms (kg) Chars, 1.233 kg Heroin and 4,852 liters Liquor from the alleged criminals’ possession besides unearthing 5 distilleries during this period.
In another development, a dacoit was killed in a police encounter after which his relatives came out to protest against the police. The protestors called the encounter as fake and demanded for the arrest of police personnel responsible for the killing.
